PLEASE NOTE PICTURES ARE PROVIDED IN THE PRINTED INSTRUCTIONS YOU WILL RECEIVE
Instructions for Refilling HP Black 62, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305 & XL Cartridges
It is recommended to refill cartridges promptly after they become empty to prevent the print head from drying out. Avoid using cartridges that have been left empty for an extended period as the heads are likely to have dried out and the cartridge will be a dud.
HP Instant Ink Subscription Cartridges CANNOT BE REFILLED
Refilling Remanufactured Cartridges IS NOT RECOMMENDED
The Premium Upright refill tool will include the large black rubber pre-fitted. Picture A Picture B illustrate the correct cartridge positioning. It is important to note that it is designed to be a tight fit - Picture C demonstrates the syringe (no needle) in the base of the tool for priming.
Remove the cartridge from your printer and place it on the table. Check the image provided to locate the red dot, indicating the refill hole. If unsure about the black fill hole, remove the label cautiously with a Stanley Type knife. The label is reusable post-refilling.
Picture D - The dot below the cartridge number (304) indicates the filling hole for all HP Black Cartridges. Then, insert the cartridge into the Priming Tool and the largest syringe (without a needle) into the Tool's bottom as shown. Now pull out the syringe plunger so that old ink comes from the print head. Do not use this old ink and dispose of carefully. (If the cartridge is completely empty no ink will appear.)
The recommended amount of ink when refilling black 62, 301, 302, 303, 304 cartridges is 3ml and for the XL cartridge 6ml of ink. Black 305 cartridges 2ml & 305XL 3.5ml. Don’t overfill.
Put the needle onto the syringe. Draw the recommended amount of ink into the syringe. It's best to load smaller 1-2ml amounts and fill the required number of times to make up the correct ml of ink.
Insert the filled syringe with the correct amount of ink into the cartridge refill hole. You will notice a slight resistance due to the sponge inside the chamber. Insert the needle no further than 3cm. Otherwise, you will stab into the filter screen and the ink will leak from the cartridge.
Now carefully & slowly fill in the ink. If ink leaks from the filler opening, draw a little back into the syringe. Clean off any ink on the cartridge.
Let the cartridge sit on a surface that is not absorbent (avoid using kitchen towel) for 8 hours to ensure the sponge is saturated with ink.
Now Prime the cartridge. (See above photo D) Take a syringe (no needle) and attach it to the base of the priming tool as shown above. Now pull out the syringe plunger. Please note hardly or no ink may come out, however this priming action will bring the ink to the print head and help clean the nozzles.
It’s Important To test you have refilled cartridge correctly take the cartridge and dab it gently and hold down on to kitchen towel for a few seconds. If you have refilled the cartridge correctly you will see a black line on the Kitchen Towel.
PLEASE NOTE All Filled and Remanufactured HP cartridges will not display ink levels. This is not a problem as you are saving lots of money. You should always keep an eye on the print quality.
When a refilled cartridge is reinstalled into the printer it is normal to receive error messages. These might be 'Low on Ink', or 'Refilled Cartridge'. You will need to skip this error by pressing 'OK' or 'Continue'. Other error messages can be caused by ink or dirt on the electrical circuit contacts of the cartridge. Carefully clean them with a damp towel.
